Poltrona Frau presents Parka sofas with Draga & Aurel
Poltrona Frau presents the Parka modular sofa collection, its first collaboration with design duo Draga & Aurel. Parka, inspired by the iconic streetwear jacket, combines bold aesthetics with soft, sculptural comfort to add a fresh, versatile elegance to modern interiors.
Poltrona Frau introduces its new Parka line of modular and sectional sofas in honour of Milan Design Week. A collection that marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration with the creative duo Draga & Aurel.
This year, Poltrona Frau’s 2024 Imagine Collection invites our imagination to emerge as a creative force capable of manifesting our ideal interiors, shaping them to create a more relatable and personal space. With this in mind, and to give voice to the theme’s numerous and possible variations, the luxury furniture brand has expanded its roster of ‘in-house design consultants’, commissioning exciting new names to collaborate on the various projects.
Draga & Aurel, a renowned design duo, has been invited to collaborate on the Imagine Softness theme. The Serbian/German design partners have been based in Como, Italy, for many years and have an impressive professional track record that spans a wide range of artistic and cultural fields. Draga and Aurel, who love fashion, bespoke vintage, and enveloping shapes, have always been interested in textile recycling and upcycling culture.
Parka, a modular seating system inspired by the iconic jacket, is their first project for Poltrona Frau, and it showcases their exceptional talent. From pop stars to streetwear: in the 1990s, the Oasis frontman (who was heavily influenced by Mod’s ’60s fashion) was able to cool down an everyday outfit. The Parka jacket became the epitome of street style, as it was both versatile and protective while remaining soft and comfortable. The Parka sofa, like the iconic jacket, blends seamlessly into any interior and is extremely versatile, despite (or perhaps because of) its strong personality.
The soft lines and generously padded upholstery that skims the floor suggest comfort and relaxation. The unusual elliptical shape of the backrest, which inclines to become an armrest and then a seamless seat, creates a concave or convex space that is both audacious and welcoming, blending in with a variety of interior styles.
“Not many companies are capable of embracing so many different external visions whilst still upholding a furnishing philosophy consistent with its identity.” states Nicola Coropulis, CEO of Poltrona Frau, “Over the years, in the various collaborations with new designers, Poltrona Frau has always sought and upheld that sense of contemporary luxury which is able to respond in an aesthetic, conceptual and, above all, ethical way – to modern requisites.”
The Parka collection consists of modular elements: a concave or convex armchair without armrests or with a terminal armrest, the latter also available in a maxi version on either the right or left side. It can be upholstered entirely in Pelle FrauR, in any of the leathers listed in the catalogue, or a leather and fabric combination. In this case, leather is applied to the exterior structure, while fabric is applied to the seat, backrest, and armrests. Tone-on-tone topstitching completes the look.
