A colonial-inspired sanctuary in Kochi
“This Kochi home is a refuge, a place where history and modernity merge to convey a story of love, connection, and perseverance.” — Temple Town.
The designer has once again woven magic into a home, creating a four-bedroom refuge in Kochi that is a perfect blend of antiquity and contemporary. The Pereiras, an expat couple living in the United States, were captivated by the designer’s work, a unique blend of colonial beauty and deep-rooted charm.

This 5,000-square-foot home embodies Pereiras’ memories, aspirations, and strong connection to their ancestry. The house is more than just a living space; it is a refuge where heritage meets modern refinement. The design expertly combines ethnic Keralan furniture with traditional European forms, resulting in a haven that seems both timeless and new, warm yet equipped with all of the modern conveniences the family is accustomed to.

The interiors of this home unfold like a story, with each room presenting its own tale. While the colonial-inspired design rich in subtle features invokes nostalgia, vintage elements are intelligently coupled with modern comforts that are discreetly integrated to preserve the home’s visual purity. The overall colour scheme is muted and pleasant, producing a peaceful atmosphere that is very crucial for the couple’s elderly parents. Colourful accents were saved for the common areas. A turquoise console at the door gives a splash of colour, creating a welcoming atmosphere, while little bursts of colour appear through well-chosen art and fabrics, providing individuality without overwhelming the area.

One of the most impressive features of this property is the seamless incorporation of modern technologies into its classical structure. Cutting-edge home automation and appliances while maintaining the heritage aesthetic were efficiently integrated. The entertainment system, for example, is carefully placed under a finely made teak console, and the kitchen appliances are hidden behind elegant cabinetry in the royal blue kitchen, ensuring that the modern features merge perfectly with the overall design.

Pyarelal’s design philosophy prioritises sustainability, and this project exemplifies her dedication to responsible crafting. The emphasis is on crafting long-lasting pieces that can be appreciated and passed down through generations, transforming each item into a possible heirloom rich with family stories and memories rather than merely furniture.
