“Motodo Pizzeria, a space for modern flair, meets old-world Italian charm, creating a culinary journey of nostalgia and delight by Studio Lotus.”

Situated on the second floor of a mall, the 1750-Sq. Ft. eatery is flanked by neighbouring restaurants, with a rear fully glazed wall that offers a glimpse into the mall’s ambience. The client’s vision called for an interactive open kitchen and bar, allowing guests to witness the creation of piping hot pizzas fresh from the wood-fired oven.

Drawing inspiration from the vibrant energy of a traditional Italian kitchen, Motodo incorporates various lines of sight to engage diners with the culinary process. Seating clusters, including a cosy C-shaped booth within the kitchen counter, provide an immersive and multi-sensory experience. The wood-fired oven takes centre stage, adorned with mosaic tiles in warm tones, while a black marble counter extends to form a well-appointed bar area. Concealed spaces behind the kitchen’s rear wall accommodate preparation, storage, and wash areas.

The restaurant’s facade combines grillwork, frosted and clear glass, creating a visual connection with the mall while affording guests different levels of privacy. The rear glazed wall presented a unique opportunity for the design team to create an enclosed verandah, a rare feature within a mall-based eatery, flooded with natural light.

Motodo’s interior design embraces a warm material palette inspired by Italy’s culinary heritage. Marble, timber, leather, and wrought iron furniture crafted by Lap and Dado and vintage decorative lighting contributes to the space’s authentic charm. Terracotta tiles form the backdrop of the live kitchen, complemented by glazed blue tiles, timber panelling, and a stunning stained-glass installation resembling a floating lightbox—a crowning element for the bar and kitchen. Mosaic tiling and brickwork add a touch of sophistication and playfulness, reflecting Italian design sensibilities.

The flooring showcases in situ terrazzo by Greenheart Floors, featuring bronze-tinted glass chips and copper spacers arranged in a diagonal grid, catching the light from various angles. The verandah area boasts patterned cement tiles by Bharat Floorings, creating a vibrant outdoor dining experience with patio-style furniture and lush greenery. Using timber and Green Udaipur stone enriches the space, showcasing a culturally relevant and comprehensive material palette.
