A custom-designed partition instils a dynamic play and adds elegance to the hefty space.
Designed as a simple yet contemporary apartment for a family of four, this home in Gurgaon encompasses an elevated, clutter-free lifestyle for the people living within. With their sensibilities rooted in Chandigarh, the young couple and their children appreciated Le Corbusier’s classic architectural style. They wanted it incorporated into the interior aesthetics while also including a reflection of their personalities. The 3200-square-foot residence is a true manifestation of the modern architecture Corbusier pioneered, and the family can call their own.
A hallway separates the bedroom areas from the living and dining spaces to maintain the privacy of the family members. With an intent to drive the design through exposed brick walls, the clients envisioned a rustic theme for the house. Two existing walls in the drawing room were stripped to their bare finish, exposing the brick masonry, which was then painted white to brighten the space and make it look commodious.
This apartment’s design prioritises openness and warmth, creating a cosy atmosphere in the dining and drawing areas. Wooden structures with perforations have been strategically placed to separate the two areas without disrupting the visual connectivity, adding a playful yet elegant touch to the overall aesthetic.
Glass partitions were installed within punctured areas of the hallway’s wall to bring more natural light into the previously dark hallway without disturbing the children during entertaining guests. The wall has also been adorned with luxurious green wallpaper and brass strips, creating a minimalist yet stylish look.
A full-height bookshelf has been installed to accentuate the hallway further, creating an immersive experience as one moves through the space. Framed artwork of varying sizes complements the overall design theme and adds colour to the walls. Beautiful lighting fixtures, fixed and hanging, lend a majestic touch to the rooms, while planters and vases bring nature indoors.
The furniture blends vibrant and colourful hues against a muted backdrop, emphasising the simplicity and minimalism of the space. The overall result is a modern apartment that embraces natural materials and light, creating a harmonious and visually appealing environment.
