Designing beyond constraints at PIECO Office

Despite low ceilings and limited daylight, PIECO Office turns limitations into advantages, creating a modern, biophilic workspace that prioritises function, flexibility, and employee well-being.

The PIECO Office in Kirti Nagar, New Delhi, exemplifies how thoughtful design can transform spatial constraints into creative opportunities. The space, designed with a minimalistic, modern, and biophilic approach, meets the client’s vision for a vibrant, functional, and collaborative environment, despite challenges such as low ceiling heights and limited natural light.

To overcome the vertical constraints, the design team worked closely with MEP consultants to integrate systems within the tight ceiling cavity while preserving the spatial experience. Where natural light was scarce, the use of glass partitions, reflective surfaces, and indirect lighting created a bright, airy atmosphere throughout the workplace.

The layout is zoned for flexibility and mobility. Collaborative zones with modular furniture promote teamwork, whereas private workstations provide focus and quiet. Social breakout spaces encourage interaction and foster a positive workplace culture. These zones perfectly transition into one another, allowing for a variety of work modes.

Materiality is essential for achieving aesthetics and performance. Glass creates a sense of openness, whereas warm wooden finishes add a natural, grounded quality. Modular construction keeps the space flexible and responsive to changing needs.

Colour psychology was also an important consideration. Nature-inspired colours such as greens, soft neutrals, and earth tones were strategically used to reduce stress, boost morale, and promote focus, reinforcing the biophilic theme and improving overall mood.

The sculptural reception table is a standout feature, serving as both a bold design statement and a functional element that reflects PIECO’s professional ethos. This signature piece establishes the tone for the remainder of the office.
