The Lutum Home, a 3500-square-foot, sixth-floor apartment in Hyderabad’s Film Nagar neighbourhood, offers stunning views of the city and is a peaceful haven.

This house’s main feature is the way it combines modern and minimalist design ideas with traditional Indian design elements. Warm, inviting seats in shades of green and rust will welcome the formal drawing. Two Rajasthani doors will be there, one serving as a central table and the other as a striking object in the room’s corner. The doorway features an asymmetrical focal point created by an off-centre classical arch surrounded by rich and sumptuous Sabyasachi wallpaper and a sculptural console.

A wooden sliding door with fabric tucked between the glasses separates the formal drawing and living area, providing a flexible solution that can strike a compromise between privacy and openness as needed. The rounded curves of various furniture items were given a playful, whimsical touch with black and white stripes, which were carefully incorporated to provide a link between the formal and informal areas.

The room was given a sense of movement and fluidity by the diagonal placement of brown earthy sandstone and a soft pink marble, which also provided just the right amount of warmth to anchor the casual living area. Additionally, it drew attention to and added visual intrigue to the arch that was built across from the front entryway, serving as a subdued focal point in the casual living area.

An artist applied delicate terracotta paint to every wall in the living space. The artist then created a detailed concrete texture on the long wall that extended onto the focal arch, where a carefully chosen collection of antiques was displayed with two damaged green Rajasthani pillars. The informal living area is made to feel open and inviting by the combination of cane and teak wood furnishings against the dark brown sandstone flooring.

The sleek chairs and sculpture-like legs of the dining table contrast with the glossy black furniture in the dining area, which highlights the black and white stripes. Gorgeous pink marble with inlays of mother-of-pearl flowers graces the tabletop. The dining area’s glossy black furniture creates a dramatic contrast with the background’s white and black patterns. The sleek cane chairs that flank the dining table, which have sculptured legs, create a fascinating focal point and modern simplicity in the room. Their simple shapes and subtle styles let the table take centre stage. With an overlay of elaborate mother-of-pearl flowers, the pink marble tabletop is a showstopper that adds a splash of grandeur to the dining area while softening the overall effect.

Another eye-catching piece is the dining sideboard, which has a gold patina finish and is complemented with carefully chosen antiques and curios. The puja door creates a distinctive and profound backdrop for the dining area, fusing spiritual symbolism with local artistic talent to create a confluence of cultures. It is framed in a green distressed wood finish and hand-painted by a local artist with mythological gods, giving it a unique and personalised touch. Nestled in a corner close to the eating area is the handwash area, including a black bookshelf adorned with a hand-painted artwork of flowers and a carved console and mirror from Rajasthan.

The master bedroom features opulent textiles and vibrant colours. The bed and wardrobe’s use of teal makes for a striking focal point in the space. The wardrobe shutters’ use of pink Sabyasachi fabric creates the ideal contrast with the teal accents. The bold bed is complemented with texture and a backdrop from the wainscoting behind it. The exquisite floor-length mirror with Rajasthani carvings is a gorgeous decorative element that gives the room depth.

The daughter’s bedroom design successfully combines straightforward aesthetics with contemporary minimalism. The core colour and material palette of black, cane, and white produce a tidy, sharp, and minimalist appearance. The wallpaper with the tropical print and the addition of an arch create a stylish yet young look. The kids’ bedroom’s bespoke soft pink wallpaper and arched teal headboard embrace a whimsical and creative vibe. The room is made more kid-friendly and lively by the spherical legs of the bed.
